Hello, again!

I just got back from a lovely mini-vacation on Nantucket. It was a much needed escape from reality and a great chance to catch up with old friends. For those of you have never visited the island, I have some long-standing recommendations (read my older post here), but I’ve got some new additions below.

Driving on the sand to Great Point - always a must!

12 Degrees East- a great new restaurant in the old Cambridge Street location. The interior and menu got a revamp, but it’s still a great spot to beat crowds and enjoy a cocktail or bite to eat. I highly recommend the flatbread appetizer – I can’t stop thinking about it!

Millie’s – if you’re in Madaket, there is no better place to watch the sunset and have an evening cocktail. Stop by for a Madaket Mystery and the best tuna tacos you’ve ever eaten! If you don’t have a car on-island, take the hourly shuttle from the information booth in town.

Petticoat Row Bakery – a great little spot on Centre street next door to Vanessa Noel shoes. If you see something that looks delicious, buy it immediately. They will run out!

Ventuno - another great new restaurant in the old 21 Federal location (Ventuno is 21 in Italian). The interior has not changed, but the food and atmosphere are more laid-back. The menu is full of small dishes you can share. I loved everything.

Matt Fee Tea

Matt Fee Tea – I’ve been a fan of Something Natural for as long as I’ve been visiting the island, but I only recently started drinking their homemade tea. It’s an herbal blend with an interesting mix of hibiscus, rosehips, mint, sugar and lemon. Sounds strange, but I promise it’s life changing!

Henri Bendel Travel Bags

A friend at work recently told me about her great Bendel travel bags and I’m obsessed! The set comes with three bags – one for laundry, lingerie and shoes – inside another reusable dust bag. So, you you really get four travel bags for $38. I think I’ll use them forever – so timeless and handy!

The blog world has been buzzing about Albin Holmqvist’s Paris video. I just went online to check out his other work and I’m totally blown away by how he captures a city through video. Technically, they’re advertisements for EF language schools, but they are really ads for the cities and culture.

Those of you who know me, know that I’m always on the go. Between work and personal travel, I’m usually gone half the year (maybe I’m exaggerating, but it sure feels like it!). This year I’ve discovered some things to make life a lot easier – hopefully they’ll help you, too!

Travelpro Walkabout Lite

During my collegiate years I was always known as a light-packer. I’m not sure when things changed, but over the past couple of years I really started to over-pack. Things changed this summer, though. My luggage was lost on the way to Greece and I resolved to never check a bag again. So far it’s made life a lot easier. Whether you’re gone for two weeks or two days, you can make do with the space in a roll-aboard bag.

LL Bean Toiletry Bag

I’ve been using this LL Bean toiletry bag for the past couple of years. It’s full of handy pockets for all of my necessities, and if something spills, I just take the entire thing into the shower and wash it out. It dries out over night and I’m back on the road.

Humangear GoToob

Goodbye, leaky shampoo containers. Hello, GoToob! I recently found these amazing little containers in Las Vegas. They’re a little spendy, but worth every penny.

Barnes & Noble Nook

When I’m on vacation I read a lot – usually a book a day. Needless to say, I’ve been hauling stacks of books all over the world with me for years. This summer I finally broke down and bought an e-reader. It’s made life so much easier. I can’t believe I waiting so long.

Pashmina

I’ve been buying $5 pashminas off the street in New York for years. They are truly an essential in my wardrobe. I’ve recently learned that they double as a fantastic blanket on airplanes. Now I carry them with me wherever I go – never to be cold again!
