It’s only fitting that I just discovered a great article in Food & Wine Magazine about Benedikt Taschen (of the book empire I just wrote about) and his New Years party catered by Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo of Animal Restaurant in LA (one of my favorite meals EVER). No surprise that Taschen was an original investor in the restaurant after hiring the guys to cater a number of parties at his home.
Here is a little snippet from the article: “For New Year’s Eve, the Taschens decided on a low-key (for them) celebration with some close friends, along with Jon and Vinny. Lauren decorated the oval dining table with burgundy dinner-plate dahlias and orange gloriosa lilies. She then topped each plate with a copy of one of Taschen’s best sellers, Keel’s Simple Diary, a colorful compilation of witty page-long questionnaires by artist Philipp Keel… When the guests arrived, the chefs began running back and forth between the kitchen and the patio overlooking Universal Studios (it’s not unusual to see an explosion during the filming of an action-movie sequence), bringing Champagne, beer and glasses of water with ice cubes shaped like naked girls. “That’s why we love coming to the Taschens,” said Jon. (The real reason he values the partnership: “They understand artists.”)”
I don’t know about you, but this is a New Years invite I’d be over-the-moon to receive. Go here to read the entire article.
