In my journal I keep a list of simple pleasures. I started doing this in high school – thanks to Oprah – when I received one of her gratitude journals. Every day I wrote down the things I was thankful for. It was the first time in my life I really started to think about the little things that made every day special.
These days I don’t keep a gratitude journal, but I do try to think about the little things that make me happy. For instance, root beer. It just makes me smile – I think about eating pizza with my dad as kid and the old A&W drive-in by my grandmothers house. It’s tasty and its cheap. It’s a simple pleasure – I love it.
