For my birthday last week my friends surprised me with a lovely meal at Harvest Supper in New Canaan, CT. I’m embarrassed to admit I’d not heard of the restaurant before, and was overjoyed to be genuinely surprised (rarity in my life!). The restaurant owners, Jack and Grace Lamb, of Jewel Bako and Jack’s Luxury Oyster Bar in New York City, have created a wonderful little spot with absolutely delicious food. It doesn’t hurt that they brought along the chef from Hearth to help them in the kitchen.
The restaurant is known for it’s small plates (they’re really just appetizers), so we ordered a bunch to share. The table collectively agreed the mushroom ragu was out-of-this-world – definitely our favorite. We also enjoyed the tuna tartare, but found the corn soup mediocre. For dinner we each tried something different – fish, steak, short rib, etc. I was not blown away by my steak, but got a taste of the short rib, which was absolutely amazing!
We had heard rave reviews about the tasting menu, although, no one in our party tried it. For $50 it seems like a steal. However, personally I would stick to the mushroom ragu and short rib entree – bound to be one of the best meals of your life.
Check out this great review by the New York Times. Even better, check out the restaurant: 15 Elm Street, New Canaan. Definitely worth the trek.
